Current Affairs plays an important role in not only UPSC CSE but all Govt job exam. But in case of UPSC Civil Services, it plays a decisive role in selection, or even helps in getting a good rank. It is impossible for you to not study Current Affairs and to clear the UPSC CSE at the same time.



The number of question from current affairs in UPSC CSE Preliminary examination varies from 10 to 25, as seen in latest trends of UPSC. However, it plays more important role in Mains. You can read any news paper, but I will prefer any one of The Hindu or Indian Express for English medium and Dainik Bhaskar or NavBharat Times for Hindi medium. 2. Current Affairs monthly compilation - 

You may miss a lot of things even after reading the News Paper daily, so you have to supplement it by reading a Current Affairs monthly compilation, which are easily available online now-a-days. You may find a lot of compilation from lot of coaching institute, but DON'T read them all. Pick any one and read it religiously.

3. One monthly magazine -

Read Yojana , which is published by Government of India and comes every month. Every edition of Yojana covers a specific topic and they are written by bureaucrats and other eminent persons. You will find correct facts and helps you in developing proper understanding. Yojana will also help you in improving your writing skill.

4. Economic Survey -

Economic Survey comes every year one day before the Union Budget is presented in Parliament of India. You have to read only that edition of it in which year you are appearing in UPSC CSE. You do not have to read the whole Economic Survey, but only which are related to your syllabus.

5. India Year Book -

You will find a lot of India Year Book in market. But you have to buy and study only the India Year Book which is published by Govt of India. Here too, you do not have to read the whole book, but only which are related to your syllabus.
